Cradling the Past, A Biography of Margaret Shaw
From frontier times, to the Great Depression, to modern day, this is Canadian history through the eyes of one woman.
Margaret grew up during the Great Depression, in the 1930's. She attended a convent boarding school, and went on to become a teacher in one-room schools in rural Alberta. She raised a large family, including two children with autism.
Margaret sometimes felt defeated by her many difficulties, but with faith and courage she picked herself up, again and again, and simply carried on.
The book is a tribute to a generation of people who endured much hardship to make Alberta and Canada what it is today.
